Retrofit, what does it really mean?

No, it’s not flocked wallpaper and 1970s decoration as Adam first thought.

Retrofit is a term that can have different meanings depending on how it's being used, but we mean it as updating or modifying your house with newer or improved parts or features to enhance its performance. Basically, save energy.

Retrofitting your house means making upgrades or modifications to you home to improve its energy efficiency, safety and comfort. Retrofitting can help tackle climate change by reducing the amount of energy you use and save money on energy bills.  Keeping you warmer or cooler.

There are many ways to retrofit your home, ranging from small changes to larger, ones.  Here are some common examples:

  1. Insulation: Insulation: Adding insulation to walls, ceilings, and floors can help keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, reducing the need for heating and air conditioning.

  2. Windows and doors: Replacing old, leaky windows and doors with new, energy-efficient models can help improve insulation and reduce energy use.

  3. Lighting: Lighting: Switching to energy-efficient lighting, such as LED bulbs, can help reduce energy use and lower your electricity bills.

  4. HVAC system: Upgrading your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system to a more energy-efficient model can help reduce the energy you use and improve indoor air quality.

  5. Water-saving fixtures: Installing low-flow showerheads and taps can help reduce water use and lower water bills.

  6. Solar panels: Installing solar panels can help generate clean energy and reduce your reliance on traditional power sources.

Overall, retrofitting your house is a great way to improve your home's energy efficiency, safety, and functionality while reducing your environmental impact and saving money on energy bills.
